We attempted the Spaceship and had a great time with my 14 year old son and two of his mates trying to work out the... puzzles. We were reminded by our lovely host Lauren that it is the most difficult escape room experience in NZ and she was not wrong. My daughter had... actually did all the research on the Escape Mate Website which she had found reliable and informative and she was able to explain all info back to us and we as parents were very happy and satisfy to book for her and her friends. We visited Escape Mate back in Dec 2018 and tried their "Ancient Temple" (one of the two rooms that they currently... offer). Escape Mate is located in the basement level of an office building. Their staff was incredibly friendly and all seem to be escape room enthusiasts themselves. The lobby/ waiting area wasn't that spacious, but then again there were only two escape room games being offered. The "Ancient Temple" room was extremely fun w/ a lot of hidden puzzles that guided you from one to the other. The decor of the room was quite impressive and had a lot of technology implemented into the design. Our experience remained true to the storyline and kept us extremely involved the whole time.

I played escape games for a first time with group of 5. We started with introduction, staff was very nice and helpful... during all game. When we struggled they were there to help us. Some puzzle are easier some harder and they will play with your brain and personality but if you listening staff and playing with your team you should get through. Temple is easier than spaceship so if you are playing for the first time I would recommend you start with Temple and then move to Spaceship both worth to try . Literally the best Escape room in New Zealand. The room is amazing, intricate, beautiful and thoughtful. Makes a change... from being locked in a room that looks and smells like your grandmother's spare bedroom with nothing but mothballs and sticky switches. We did The Temple, the gamemaster that day was absolutely awesome and the lot of us had an absolute ball! It wasn't so difficult you wanted to give up, it was just the right amount of challenging. I took the vault game with a few work friends. The environment was absolutely immersive and I felt like playing an... escape game throughout the whole way. Regrettably I didn't solve as many secrets as I wanted but those I did solve I loved a lot. The staffs there were really nice too. They made sure timely guidance was given whenever we got stuck and, as per their own admission, they only laughed at us several times. If you're into Escape Rooms, this is one of the most fun I've been to. My wife and I did "The Lab," which just the two... of us. It was definitely doable with two people. The game masters were nice and have a liberal hint policy, that way you can fully experience their creations and without giving away too much. These are the more tech-savvy rooms I've seen. Since this will likely be my only trip to Wellington, so the game masters were gracious to show us "The Vault." If you have a big group, do that room! I know it would be real fun if we had a 6-person group. But it is big and WILL fit a group of 10 if you're group is that big.read more

"The Lab" room which we did had fiendish and creative puzzle design, requiring outside the box... thinking even for a group of friends highly experianced in puzzles, requiring team play to be able to complete within the time limit. The puzzle was also layered in a non linear fashion, meaning there is a multitude of paths you could take to find the solution. Some clues hide in plain sight, while others are well hidden behind lock and key, it really is an awesomely fun challenge. I would highly recommend the Lab to anyone who likes challenging puzzles and wants to give their brain a bit of a practical workout, and nor can I wait to give the other room "The Vault" a go as I'm sure it's just as much fun.read more

Visually impressive room with lots to do (we did the lab). Using the walkie-talkie resulted in a lot of feedback,... making it difficult to communicate with the staff, and the hints given were a bit too detailed for our taste.read more

LOVED it ! Just came back from a Sunday night Family trip to the 'Vault' . It challenged ALL of us , and was so great... to have an activity that appealed to a teenaged boy , 10 yr old and a 7 yr old as well as adults . Age definitely doesn't equal ability as our 7yr daughter carried the team , the hour flew by , and we were so immersed in the task that when the clock ticked down our son panicked , believing that the vault was being stormed!! Worth every cent - so good to be doing something that isn't eating or watching a movie . Roll on August for the new room !read more

Did the Lab. SO impressed! It is incredibly incredibly ingenuisly designed with really sophisticated electronics and... science. I got so engrossed in the roleplay and time flew by. Izabella is so wonderful and was very attentive with helping us with little hints over the intercom which weren't the direct answer which was great beause it didn't spoil the puzzel solving. She was always able to help with no hesitation when describing the answers to our questions because she knows the puzzel thoroughly. She very generously let us continue and go extra time until we finished. At the end we got photos and given a gift which was really the cherry ontop of a memorable evenning.read more

Escaped "The Vault" with nine friends this morning and we all had an excellent time! The hosts were very welcoming and... the game was well-planned. We were even provided with munchies to nibble on while settling in on arrival. We'll definitely be back when the format changes again :)read more

Really enjoyable game. A great way to spend an hour thinking outside the square and acting out part of those action... movies like Oceans 11. We did it as a family and we are still yalking to each other!

This was an amazingly unique experience, with an excellent team on site to make it all the more entertaining. We... completed 'the vault' in 54 minutes (cutting it a little fine) and I recommend that everyone give this a go. We will certainly be coming back to try the 'dark room'.read more
